Tree Planting Workshop!

Tree Planting Workshop!

Don't miss this opportunity to attend a tree planting workshop! The workshop will cover subjects such as purchasing trees, planting trees, spacing, which species to plant, soil types, site selection, watering and other related subjects. Proper planting and good maintenance practices will determine the success or failure of newly planted trees. To help folks understand proper tree planting, the City of Cuero Tree Board, along with the DeWitt County Extension Service, is sponsoring a Tree Planting Workshop.

Many people have planted trees for shade, windbreaks, privacy, or wildlife habitat and have had rather disappointing results. At the same time others have planted trees with great success. This workshop will help you learn many useful ways to be successful with the trees you plant.

Daniel Lewis, Texas A&M Forest Service ? Staff Forester III, will be the guest speaker. He will be discussing the following topics:
* What needs to be done to prepare for tree planting? * What kind of trees do I purchase?
* Where do I plant?
* When do I plant?
* How do I plant?
* What about fertilizer?
* What about watering?
* What about weed control?
* What about insect problems?
* What steps are needed after planting?

We will also have Victoria Master Gardener Alton Meyer present a brief program on ?Planting and Growing Fruit Trees?. The workshop is open to the public; however the Cuero Tree Board strongly encourages people who are involved with planting public trees to attend (County, City, School Districts, etc.).

The workshop will take place on Thursday, March 20, 2014 from 9:00 ? 11:00 a.m., at the Cuero Municipal Clubhouse (Rockhouse). There is no cost for the workshop. Attendees are encouraged to RSVP by calling the DeWitt County Extension Office at 361-275-0816.
