KCB began beautifying the railroad property by having Union Pacific demolish an eyesore, an old loading dock. Photo if possible The City removed a large red clay buff adjacent to the tracks and replaced it with an asphalt parking lot. Then KCB constructed xeroscape flower gardens. The following year the opposite side of the street was also paved for parking and KCB built another bed of plants capable of withstanding the hot dry summer weather.

In 2010 Cuero Development Corporation awarded KCB a grant to place study recycled benches in the downtown area. Business owners adopted planters in front of their businesses. KCB planted them and had a shower for the owners presenting them with and water pails.

KCB rewards residence and business owners with Blue Ribbon Award signs for maintaining lawns and curbsides in an exemplary manner. Photos In addition, KCB projects raise awareness in the community about the importance of preventing creeping blight.

The City has adopted ordinances to remove dilapidated structures. KCB participates in cleanup campaigns at the local, state, and national levels. photos The droughts of the past three years have killed many large trees. Photo In order to protect and preserve the remaining trees, KCB and the City partnered to write tree ordinances, then the City applied for and was accepted affiliation to Tree City USA.
